The Oh Sh*t, I’m Going to be a Dad playbook is the modern guide for new dads to help you prepare for fatherhood.

This playbook will give you the essential steps you need to take to walk confidently — and consciously — into fatherhood. Dale wrote this as a modern take on fatherhood to empower and educate not only his own son, but also the next generation of men.

Fatherhood is about embracing who you are, your strengths and your weaknesses, and helping your family weather whatever storms may come.

That’s what this playbook is going to do. It’s going to prepare you to lead your family when your newborn arrives, and then continue to help your new family grow and thrive.

I was born the youngest of 12 siblings in Gary, Indiana. At nine years old, I was riding to the construction site of the dream house my father was building when my entire world was flipped upside down by one word – DIVORCE. I always idolized my father, but when I found out about the divorce, everything changed. For years, I spiraled into depression. I acted out, got kicked out of five schools in three years, and lashed out at my parents as I tried to understand what it means to be a good man.

Then, I met a trainer at one of my schools who shook me to my core. He taught me how to deal with my emotions and manage fear in a healthy way. He helped me gain confidence and clarity around my appearance and my purpose. It was here that I learned the power of changing my physical state to create powerful change in other areas of my life. In my fitness endeavors, I learned the power of using my physicality to change my inner world. The focus, discipline, and drive of athletics required me to start changing other areas of my life, too. So I started visualizing a life where I could be more present, have more freedom, and spend more time with family.

And just as I was hitting my stride, another word came along that shook my life – FATHER.

Since that day, I’ve been on a personal mission to evolve into the best person I could possibly be. And along the way, I realized that I am just one father to one son. I can only make so much of a difference on my own. So I turned my attention toward empowering other fathers, other men and women to take on their parenting and developed a coaching practice out of that mission. Over the course of my work, I’ve come to realize that the expecting time is just as important for the dad as for the child and mother.
